iMac’s super-elegant new design is made from a single sheet of aluminum covered with glass. Apple has assembled together brainpower and splendor into one slick powerful machine.
Outside:
This sets new standards for elegance and power to a point that no other PC manufacturer comes close to Apple’s near-seamless aesthetic, or price. The iMac packs high-performance into an all-in-one design which comes in 20 and 24 inch screen sizes.
Apple has also introduced an uber-minimalist ultra-thin aluminum keyboard that also has two USB 2.0 ports enabling you to connect your iPod, Mighty Mouse, digital camera, or any other device to it.
The iMac also features built-in iSight camera and a microphone that will enable you to start a conversation with anyone anywhere around the world effortlessly.
Inside:
The new iMac uses Intel’s Santa Rosa/Centrino Duo platform. This means a higher front side bus speed and integrated support for 802.11n (next-generation high-speed Wifi). The computer also supports Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR which means you can transfer data from any other Bluetooth device to your iMac.
Additionally, it also boasts the new ATI Radeon HD graphics card that can deliver a stunning visual environment with more vivid, life-like images and videos. To complement all this, the new iMac has a Superdrive that will enable you to burn both CDs and DVDs, so imagine creating a DVD of your last trip with iMovie HD application – another great free gift with any new iMac.
What’s in it?
Under the hood you will find the rock-solid secure operating system called Mac OS X (Leopard). If you’re a Windows user, the great news is that with all new Macs (including the iMac) you can run Windows (or any other operating system) side by side with OS X.
To run Windows (XP or Vista), you can either use the Mac built-in software Boot Camp, or you can use a virtualization software like Parallels or VMware Fusion to run the whole Windows OS under your Mac alongside any other application
The iMac also comes with bundles of great application suites like iLife 08 which is a bunch of applications that includes:
iMovie 08: Where you can easily create and edit movies transferred from your camcorder (any brand will do).
iDVD 08: Done with the movie, now you need something to make the DVD menus with all the sub-menus, and burn it. Who said it can’t look good?
iPhoto 08: Lets you organize and catalogue all your photos in digital albums by events and dates, so that you can share them with your loved ones, or burn a CD and send it to the photo lab (saves money on printer’s ink).
iTunes: Do we need to even talk about this application? Here is an equation for you:
iTunes + Music + iPod = iWOW.
Garage Band: This great app will help you create your own songs, soundtracks, and podcasts. I have been using it for over 3 years now, with no musical background whatsoever.
iWeb 08: Click, drag, drop, type, then click publish… Now you have an awesome website!
Instead of rambling on into geek-talk trance (tech-specs), and to make your life (and ours) easier look for iWeaver’s advertisement in this issue, pay them a visit today, and go checkout the new alluring iMac for yourself.
